Discussion On Whether To Educate Or Train Leaders Army

There has been endless discussion about the topic of whether to train or educate our leaders. This topic has always been a matter of adapting to the situation and enemy. Although technological advancements have been a dream for the past 30 years, the types of wars fought in the last 30 have changed so it is only fair that our methods shift from training to education. Everything, from how soldiers are educated to their leadership abilities, has to keep improving. It is no longer about fighting on the battlefield and boots on ground. We can empower and educate soldiers to make them more resourceful and advanced leaders.

The military’s transition will have an impact on the outcome 10 to 15 years or 30 years down-the-road. It is not a way for us to catch up. 32 years ago we had only two options for educating soldiers. These were brick and mortar schools or distance learning with lessons and tests sent via mail. We now have many options for educating soldiers. This allows soldiers to learn on their own time, which makes it easier for leaders and soldiers to be more intelligent. It is possible to expect the digital transition to be a seamless one. We must as a nation keep improving our leadership skills and education as we aren’t favored by the current population to remain ahead of countries like Russia or China. These major powers threaten the country’s ability to defend itself in war, land, air and sea.
